Andrew Byrne has made a name for himself with his touching and funny original songs , and by penning hilarious parodies of your favorite tunes from contemporary and classic musicals.

Andrew Byrne is a voice teacher, vocal coach, composer, performer and music director. He was twice named one of the “Favorite Vocal Coaches” in NYC Backstage Reader’s Choice Awards.  In the past few seasons, his students have been seen in over 40 Broadway shows, including Wicked, The Book of Mormon, Evita, Big Fish, If/Then, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, Billy Elliott, Rock of Ages, Hair, The Addams Family, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Hairspray, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Phantom of the Opera, Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Chorus Line, Mamma Mia!, Sweeney Todd, Les Misérables and The Light in the Piazza.

Andrew has served on guest faculty at the University of Michigan’s musical theater department.  He was also on the faculty of the School of Fine Arts at Boston University, holding positions in both the music and theater departments. He holds a Master of Music degree in vocal pedagogy and performance from Arizona State University, as well as an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from Western Michigan University.

Andrew’s Broadway and off-Broadway conducting/keyboard credits include Les Misérables, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, A Class Act and Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh.  He was the singing coach for The Bridge Project, directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes.  He made his Lincoln Center conducting debut with a concert version of Triumph of Love, followed by a return engagement to lead a production of Andrew Lippa’s john and jen. He has also music-directed projects for such companies as Sundance Theatre Lab, the York Theater, Primary Stages and the New York Musical Theater Festival.  Other regional conducting credits include The Full Monty and Ragtime for the Weston Playhouse, Ragtime for North Shore Music Theater, Medea/Macbeth/Cinderella for Yale Repertory Theatre, and Pump Boys and Dinettes for St. Michael’s Playhouse.

Internationally, Andrew has worked with such organizations as the Shanghai Theatre Academy, The Banff Centre and The Danish Academy of Musical Theater.  He frequently teaches master classes for university musical theater programs around the country.

As a composer/lyricist, Andrew is the creator of Mock Your World, a show of original songs that has been performed in NYC venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Ars Nova, The Laurie Beechman Theatre and the Zipper Theater.  He also created CockTales, a show of his parody songs that has been played to sold-out crowds both in NYC and Washington D.C. through Living Social.  His work has also been heard by millions of people as the vocal arranger for the Glamazons on season 2 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent.  His songs are performed all over the country and internationally, and have been featured on Seth Rudetsky’s Obsessed! video series, as well as such prominent blogs as Americablog and Towleroad.  His song “A Contemporary Musical Theater Song” is featured in the upcoming film Waiting in the Wings. Performances of his parody of Goldrich and Heisler’s “Taylor the Latte Boy” have received more than half a million views on youtube.

In his performing career, Andrew has taken on many leading roles in musical theater, including Robert in Company, Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden, and Freddy Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady. His operatic roles have included Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, the Vicar in Albert Herring, and Edwin in Trial by Jury.   Andrew studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria and at the Bay View Music Festival.
