American Musical Theatre LIVE! Paris accueil le compositeur John BUCCHINO pour un stage intensif sur son spectacle It’s Only Life. Ce stage s’adresse aux comédiens de théâtre musical et chanteurs de niveau supérieur et professionnels. Il a pour but d’apporter aux participants des techniques spécifiques au théâtre musical contemporain en s’appuyant sur le spectacle It’s Only Life, écrit par John Bucchino. Le coaching comprend un travail sur les différentes techniques vocales (voix de tête et voix de poitrine (ou « belt »), la diction anglaise, et le jeu d’acteur basé sur les techniques Stanislavski et Meisner.

La formation se termine par un showcase. (Le stage se déroule principalement en Anglais, mais l’équipe AMT étant bilingue, les francophones sont encouragés à y participer).

LES INTERVENANTS
John BUCCHINO, Miranda CRISPIN, et Mathieu SERRADELL

John BUCCHINO est le compositeur du spectacle Broadway A Catered Affair. Reconnu internationalement en tant que compositeur, il a gagné le prix New York Drama League dans la catégorie meilleure comédie musicale et obtenu 12 nominations aux Drama Desk Awards. Il a également reçu le Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award, l’ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, le Jonathan Larson Award, le Kleben Award, et le Los Angeles Ovation Award pour son oeuvre It’s Only Life. Il a travaillé avec de nombreux artistes tels que Liza Minelli, Barbara Cook, Art Garfunkel, Michael Feinstein, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, Nathan Gunn, Deborah Voigt, et Yo-Yo Ma.

Miranda CRISPIN assurera le coaching vocale, de diction anglaise et de travail d’acteur. Directrice artistique d’AMT Live, elle a travaillé en tant que metteur en scène, professeur, et comédienne en France, aux Etats-Unis, et en Angleterre. Miranda a démarré très tôt sa carrière, durant son enfance aux Etats Unis. Elle a travaillé sur des dizaines de spectacles musicaux tels que Smokey Joe’s Café, Cinderella, The Wiz, Urinetown, Godspell, The Last Five Years, The King & I, The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, Violet, Honk!, Joseph…Dreamcoat, et A Funny Thing Happened…, Edges, Songs for a New World et Next Thing You Know.

Mathieu SERRADELL accompagnera les artistes au piano. Actuellement assistant directeur musical et pianiste pour le spectacle Cats au Théâtre Mogador, il a également travaillé avec Stage Entertainment France sur La Belle et la Bête et Le Bal des Vampires. Membre de la compagnie AMT Live, il a accompagné de nombreuses master classes avec l’association et assure l’accompagnement des soirées mensuelles open mic de la compagnie.

PLANNING
Du 9 au 12 janvier: Intervenants Miranda Crispin et Mathieu Serradell (piano)

  • Evaluation du niveau des participants afin de définir les besoins spécifiques de chacun.
  • Apprentissage et application de techniques de chant lyrique et de voix de poitrine (ou « belt ») sur des morceaux de comédie musicale afin d’aborder le répertoire avec plus d’aisance vocale.
  • Préparation à la collaboration piano/chant (un pianiste accompagne les participants en direct pendant la durée du stage)
  • Travail en solo et en groupe sur le répertoire du spectacle. Le coaching inclue un travail sur la technique vocale, la diction anglaise et l’interprétation.

Du 13 au 16 janvier: Intervenants John Bucchino et Mathieu Serradell (piano)

  • Travail sur le spectacle It’s Only Life avec le compositeur.

Showcase – le 16 janvier 2016

  • La formation se termine par un showcase – It’s Only Live en version concert avec John Bucchino au piano.

INFORMATIONS PRATIQUES
La formation se déroule sur huit jours du 9 au 16 janvier 2016 du samedi au samedi (entre 10h-18h) avec un showcase publique le 16 janvier.

Durée 39 heures (6 heures par jour) dont 30 heures de cours collectif, 2 heures de cours particulier, et 7 heures pour le showcase (set-up, filage avec sonorization, showcase, et démontage).

American Musical Theatre LIVE! Paris will be hosting guest artist John Bucchino for an intensive workshop focussing on his musical It’s Only Life. This session is geared for professional and emerging professional singers, actors, and musical theatre performers who want to apply integrated musical theatre techniques to this musical performance, including classical and belt voice techniques, English diction, and bringing specific acting choices based in Stanislavski and Meisner techniques. Collaborating with Miranda Crispin and Mathieu Serradell, John Bucchino will coach all performers for a concert performance of his show, It’s Only Life. AMT Live Artistic Director Miranda Crispin will provide vocal and diction coaching, and pianiste Mathieu Serradell will provide collaborative piano accompaniment for rehearsals.

Artists will work from January 9-12 with Miranda Crispin and Mathieu Serradell to prepare solo and ensemble repertoire from the show. John Bucchino will join the team on January 13 to direct the team in preparation for the concert showcase.

The session will culminate with a showcase performance, a concert performance of It’s Only Life, with the composer at the piano. This will be the first time this work has been performed in France.

The workshop will be held primarily in English, but local staff are bilingual. Francophone artists are encouraged to apply.

John BUCCHINO’S songs have been performed and recorded by renowned pop (Art Garfunkel, Judy Collins), theatre (Liza Minnelli, Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald), cabaret (Barbara Cook, Michael Feinstein), and classical (Yo-Yo Ma, Deborah Voight, Nathan Gunn), artists as well as The Boston Pops, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in venues including Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Opera, The Hollywood Bowl, The Sydney Opera House, London’s O2 Arena and The White House.

Among his honors are two Drama Desk nominations, The Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award, The ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, The Jonathan Larson Award, The Kleban Award, The Los Angeles Ovation Award (for the revue IT’S ONLY LIFE), The DVD Premiere Award (for the song “Better Than I”), and the first annual Fred Ebb Award.

He has written scores for the musicals URBAN MYTHS, LAVENDER GIRL, Broadway’s A CATERED AFFAIR (nominated for 12 Drama Desk Awards, and winner of the New York Drama League Award for Best Musical, with a book by Harvey Fierstein), IT’S ONLY LIFE, and the Dreamworks animated film JOSEPH, KING OF DREAMS, and lyrics for the children’s musical SIMEON’s GIFT (with a book by Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton and music by Ian Fraser).  Some recordings of his work are: GRATEFUL, THE SONGS OF JOHN BUCCHINO (with companion songbook), SOLITUDE LESSONS (another collection of original songs), ON RICHARD RODGERS’ PIANO (solo piano interpretations of Rodgers songs on the composer’s own Steinway, voted Best Instrumental CD by Show Business Weekly), and the PS Classics releases of the cast albums of IT’S ONLY LIFE (with companion songbook) and A CATERED AFFAIR. As part of their Julie Andrews Collection, Harper Collins published a children’s book, based on John’s song, called “Grateful, A Song of Giving Thanks” which was awarded the Parents’ Choice Gold Award.

Miranda CRISPIN will provide vocal/diction and acting coaching for the workshop. Acting Artistic Director of AMT Live Paris, she works as a professional director, teacher, and performer in France, the USA, and the UK. Having started a life in the theatre during childhood, she has had the opportunity to work on dozens of musicals, including SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE, CINDERELLA, THE WIZ, URINETOWN, GODSPELL, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, THE KING & I, THE SOUND OF MUSISC, PETER PAN, CRAZY FOR YOU, VIOLET, HONK!, JOSEPH…DREAMCOAT, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, EDGES, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, and NEXT THING YOU KNOW. As a teacher and master class clinician, she has taught on faculty at several universities and theatre programs, and maintains a private studio in both Paris, France and Tucson, Arizona, USA.

Mathieu SERRADELL will provide collaborative accompaniment for the workshop. Member of the AMT Live troupe,  il a accompagné de nombreuses master classes avec l’association et assure l’accompagnement des open mic soirées mensuels de la troupe. Assistant Musical Director with Stage Entertainment France, he has worked at Théâtre Mogador for the past two years on recent shows SISTER ACT, LA BELLE ET LA BETE, LE BAL DES VAMPIRES and, currently, CATS. He Musical Directed the Paris production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOD (Palace, Paris, 2009), and Assistant Directed ANNE, THE MUSICAL (Brodway Mad, Espace P. Cardin). An avid linguist, he spent several years in England, where he worked on several musicals, including LES MISERABLES, CABARET, ANNIE, WEST SIDE STORY, SUMMER HOLIDAY, COMPANY (Playrite Theatre Projects, dir. T. Hitchings), and TITANIC THE MUSICAL (100th anniversary edition) at the Minack Theatre, UK.

The workshop will be held from 9-16 January 2016 (during the hours of 10am – 6pm).

There will be 39 hours of training.

The workshop will be held in Paris 1er/4ème. Specific addresses will be provided to registered participants.
